The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Manuscripts Department at the Wilson Library provides access to 18th- and 19th-century manuscripts (along with substantial collections of 20th-century materials) of the Southern Historical Collection, long known for its strong collections of antebellum plantation, Civil War, and Reconstruction South materials. The University of Nottingham eTheses archive is a pilot project to create a digital library of MPhil and PhD theses awarded by the University of Nottingham. By making this original research more widely available they hope to increase world-wide interest in the very valuable and exciting work carried out by the student researchers. This is a pilot project managed by the Graduate School and Information Services -- participation is not compulsory and it does not replace the submission of paper copies of a thesis.

It is a tool for collecting, disseminating, and preserving the intellectual output of the UO community.

The University of Pittsburgh Digital Research Library (DRL) Collections is operated by the university's University Library System (ULS), supporting the teaching and research mission of the university and serving users through the creation and maintenance of Web-accessible digital research collections. The DRL focused on creating text-based collections whose digitization and accessibility on the Web would aid the research of scholars, historians, faculty, and students. The DRL has since expanded its tools and capabilities to provide access to photographs, map images, finding aids, several databases, manuscripts, postcards, and audio-visual materials.

The University of Pittsburgh is participating in a one year pilot project to determine the procedural feasibility and scholarly advantages of accepting theses and dissertations in electronic rather than paper-based format at the University of Pittsburgh. As of December 2002 graduation, the ETD pilot project entered a transition period, working toward all theses and dissertations at the University of Pittsburgh being submitted electronically. At Pitt, ETDs are entered into the University's online catalog, PittCat, enabling scholars world-wide to locate and download ETDs using the PITTCat search engine.

The University of Saskatchewan Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Pilot Project is a joint initiative between the College of Graduate Studies and Research (CGSR) and the University Main Library to enable graduate students to submit their thesis or dissertation electronically to CGSR and the Library. The long term goals of this project are to make information on research done at the University of Saskatchewan available to the world, and reduce the cost to students by not requiring that a bound copy of their thesis be submitted to CGSR as a requirement for their degree.

The University of South Carolina (USC) University Libraries Digital Collections creates digital collections and makes them available to enhance scholarship and research, to increase access to its holdings, to support the teaching and learning activities of the University of South Carolina faculty and students, and to promote lifelong learning by the citizens of South Carolina and the public at large. Through the use of appropriate technological standards, the University Libraries endeavor to preserve, encourage use of, and facilitate access to its digital collections.

The University of Texas at Austin Libraries Repository contains a number of digitized collections from the University of Texas at Austin, including the Archive of Indigenous Languages of Latin America (AILLA), The Robert Runyon Photography Collection, The McDonald Observatory Collection, the University of Texas at Austin Theses and Dissertations, and the TXDOT Texas Highway Maps.

The University of the Pacific Holt-Atherton Special Collections Digital Collections Repository consists of online images of original materials that are located in Special Collections. The mission of Special Collections is to collect, preserve, and provide access to manuscript collections, a specialized book collection, and the university archives for students and faculty of the University of the Pacific and the general public. The collection development policy for the manuscript and book collections focuses on Western Americana with an emphasis on California history and the northern San Joaquin Valley.

The USC (University of Southern California) Digital Archive provides access to photographs, maps, manuscripts, records, texts and sound recordings owned by USC and collaborating institutions. Particular emphasis has been placed on materials related to Los Angeles and the Southern California region, the western United States, and the Pacific Rim. USC has developed this "meta-collection" to unite and provide access to the unique information owned and housed by many different regional institutions that, when viewed together, expand the research opportunities and knowledge of the Southern California region.

USQ (University of Southern Queensland) ePrints is an open-access electronic archive of research papers and other materials produced by USQ staff and students.
